DIY deliciousness – a holiday gift roundup

Spoiler alert! If you’re a pal of mine, there’s a good chance you’ll be receiving one of the DIY projects I’m about to reveal in this post. So, if you want to be surprised, read no further. But, if you’re thinking “whatever… it’s just another crazy project from Lo’s kitchen… I get those all year!” you’re right. And you’re also a fun hating grinch!

Last year, as I was savoring the November 2012 issue of Bon Appetit, I came across a charming little story about a DIY food gifting tradition that Melissa Hamilton and Christopher Hirsheimer of Canal House have embraced over the years. I thought it was a lovely idea, so my husband and I immediately went to work on creating what we called “Santas Little Helpers,” a duo of infused spirits from the PDT cocktail book. The booze was a total hit, but when we decided to change things up this year, I found myself incredibly inspired by all of the beautiful (and in many cases healthy) recipes so many bloggers and publications have put out into the universe. I’m still pretty new to this, and one thing that motivates me to keep at it is being a part of this creative and generous community. So, here I present you with some of the recipes I’ve made on Golden that would make great gifts, as well as a roundup of other delightful treats that I can’t wait to make.

P.S. It’s time for the spoiler! This year we made another duo: hazelnut butter-n-quince jelly. Thanks to my pal Sheri at for leading me to those tasty preserves!

Spoiler alert is right! We were all fighting for the last spoonful! Valentines is coming up soon (hint hint).

  2. Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly
enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new
to everything. Do you have any suggestions for
novice blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.

  3. I am really impressed with your writing skills as well as with
the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you
modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a great blog
    like this one these days.
